az & cormega
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010The past few weeks have been stuffed with a lot of live shows. Rock the Bells, Twin Guns, AZ & Cormega, and Black Army Jacket … all were ill performances, but I’d like to focus on the second to last show I attended.
The opening acts included a lot of artists I was not familiar with and I have to admit I don’t remember all of their names, however I know that Catch Lungs, Jon Hope, Eternia, and Donny Goines were part of the opening line up. These artists all put on a decent performance for the heads eagerly awaiting the emcees from Queens and BK.
La the Darkman and Willie the Kid also performed, but nah … LAD did not go into any songs from Heist of the Century (I would’ve wiled out if this occurred). The duo stuck to music from their Gangsta Grillz and Aphilliates tapes. It was disappointing being a fan of La the Dark for so long and not getting to see him perform any of his classic material, or even some of the ill singles he dropped around 04.
The engineers and soundmen at Santos need to get their shit together, all throughout the openers there were issues with the mic volumes. Not until Cormega stopped the show to complain about it and refuse to perform until the fans felt the mic levels were correct did the issue get fixed (on one mic).
Cormega performed his set along with a jazz band called The Revelations creating the beats from his albums. This was an ill touch, as someone that has seen Mega a few other times it changed the atmosphere of the show and I’m for other artists incorporating this into their sets. Mega also brought out Chinky to sing some of the hooks, and Nature came out to drop a few bars. I wish Nature spit a joint or two off For All Seasons, there’s a couple tracks on that album I fuck with heavily. Grand Wiz and Craig G also made brief appearances during the set.
Now onto AZ’s set. I was hoping he’d do mostly material from Doe or Die, and he did do a couple joints from his debut. He did tracks from most of his albums. Seeing Problems and I’m Back performed live was ill for me, two of my favorite AZ joints. AZ also brought out Lil Fame to drop a few bars. Mega and AZ performed their verses from Affirmative Action and Nature was on stage as well.
Overall, a dope show that heads really snored on. I grabbed photos with a point and shoot, and will be posting them up later … after they’re all resized properly. Until then, here’s a few vids courtesy of Grand Good …
