i am love

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

I Am Love (Italian: Io sono l’amore) is a 2009 Italian film by Luca Guadagnino set at the turn of the millennium in Milan. The film follows the fall of the haute bourgeoisie due to the forces of passion and unconditional love. Set in Milan’s upper classes, in the Art Deco villa of a family of great wealth, this is a film about repression and breaking free.

Screened this at the Sunshine the other night, best film I’ve seen in a while. Definitely check it if you can.

taxi driver – midnight screenings

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

The days go on and on… they don’t end. All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don’t believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention, I believe that one should become a person like other people.

The Sunshine on East Houston will be screening Taxi Driver at midnight on June 18th and June 19th. This is one of my favorite films and I’ve never caught it on the big screen before.

downtown calling

Monday, October 19th, 2009

In the late 1970s, the “greatest city in the world” was teetering on the edge of total chaos. A failed economy, crime and en mass housing corruption gave way to a city in crisis. Yet out of the economic and social strife that held the “Big Apple” hostage, a family of homegrown cultures that would forever change the world began to emerge. Downtown Calling not only documents, in detail, the evolution of New York City’s fertile music and art subculture during this period, but how its collective output continues to play a prominent, driving role in the international fashion, art and music industries today.

Hope this’ll premiere in NYC soon, check the trailer here.
